The Indian Institute of Metals, Mumbai Chapter Awards
In order to acknowledge technical excellence of its members and connect with them, IIM Mumbai Chapter (IIM MC) has initiated various award schemes. For the year 2025, we made a modest beginning by conferring i) Best Ph.D. thesis, ii) Best M.Tech. Thesis and iii) Best Technical Paper Awards using our internal resources. The awards were conferred on the winners during the AGM2025. For the year 2026, based on the feedback received from the members, a new category of award called ‘Best Practicing Engineer Award’ has been introduced for members from industries.Major industries are associated with IIM APEX awards conferred by IIM HO. Sponsoring IIM MC awards provides an opportunity to medium and small metallurgical industries located in Mumbai Metropolitan Region to connect with large pool of both experienced and budding professionals, gain visibility and strengthen the bond among the members from academia and R&D centers and industries. IIM MC is open to sponsorship of the existing awards or initiating new awards by various entities serving the metallurgical industries. IIM MC appreciates the gesture of VASVIK board for readily agreeing to our proposal of making one-time donation to IIM MC to sponsor the Best Technical Paper Awards in basic and directed research. The award has been renamed as VASVIK IIM MC Best Technical Paper Award.

The Indian Institute
of Metals, Mumbai Chapter, invites nominations for the "IIM Mumbai Chapter
Awards 2026" to acknowledge outstanding contributions in the field of
Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. There are four new award categories
starting from 2026. The award categories for 2026 are the following:
i) Electrotherm IIM MC Best M. Tech. Thesis Award (1 award)
ii) Bhukhanvala IIM MC Best Ph.D. Thesis Award (1 award)
iii) VASVIK IIM Mumbai Chapter Best Technical Paper Award: category basic science (1 award) (nominee age less than 35 on January 01, 2026)
iv) VASVIK IIM Mumbai Chapter Best Technical Paper Award: category applied research (1 award) (nominee age less than 35 on January 01, 2026)
v) IREL IIM MC Best Practicing Engineer Award (1 award) (nominee age less than 40 on January 01, 2026)
vi) IREL IIM MC Best Practicing Engineer Award (1 award) (nominee age more than 40 on January 01, 2026)
The award comprises a
cash prize, citation and memento. If no suitable candidates are found then
the award will not be given for that year.

CorSciTech
“CorSciTech”, founded under the aegis of The Indian Institute of Metals, Mumbai Chapter, is pleased to announce the nomination of students for the "CorSciTech National Awards." These awards are intended to acknowledge students who have conducted exceptional research for their Master's and Doctoral theses in the field of Corrosion Science and Engineering. The Award includes a cash prize and a certificate.

Brief Synopsis of the Process Undertaken
The Indian Institute of Metals has developed an Online application & assessment portal, effective from 2018 March, in line with Indian National Academy of Engineering, New Delhi[INAE]. The Online portal constitutes provisions for application for Core Categories of Award, both for NMD & IIM. [Applications-Assessment end to end process has been designed 100% ONLINE for NMD Awards wef 2018; 100% online for IIM Awards wef 2020]After a candidate applies online in a predefined proforma, submitting all recommended credentials, the application shall get submitted & get divulged to the respective Assessors.[NMD & IIM Awards Committee]
